The List of Awards

2022 Wilmington Memorial Library was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation for the revitalization of the first floor of the library.

2022 Teen Services Librarian Sara Rotter was awarded a scholarship to attend the 2022  Association for Information Science and Technology Conference

2021 – Marketing Librarian Ellen Boyle was awarded the 2021 Library Marketing and Communication Conference Scholarship.

2019 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award for “Revive Civility” series, second place in the “Programming, Advocacy and Outreach” category and Honorable Mention for the Stars Winter Reading Program.

2018 – Best Podcast award at the Massachusetts Creator Awards for the “Digital Divide” podcast hosted  by Technology Librarian Brad McKenna and WCTV’s Lisa Kapala.

2017 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Awards -First Place in the web site category, first place in the merchandise category for library ambassador t-shirt, and third place in the newsletter category for teacher email newsletter.

2017 – Most Loved Library Award by Merrimack Valley Hula Frog

2015 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award – Second place in the advertisement category for billboard “Why Buy?”

2013 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award – First place in the newsletter category, second place in the web site category and third place in the bookmark category.

2011 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award – Second place for brochure category for “Wilmington Reads Michael Pollan” brochure.

2011 – Friends of the Library Book Store Next Door received the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA) Kenneth E. Pickard Municipal Innovation Award

2010 – $10,000 LSTA federal grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners for Customer Services Training.

2010 – $12,500 grant from the Praxair Corporation for self-check unit.

2009 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award –  First place in  bookmark category for adult program bookmarks

2009 – Charlotte Wood, Assistant Library Director, was among the forty applicants selected to participate in the Library Leadership Massachusetts Institute, July 27 through July 30, sponsored by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the six Massachusetts Regional Library Systems.

2008 – Christina Stewart, Library Director, received the “Unsung Heroine Award” from the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women for library makeover project. She was nominated by Superintendent of Schools Joanne Benton.

2007 – Susan MacDonald, Children’s Librarian, was recipient of the Phyllis Allen Smith North Shore Council’s Annual Celebrate Literacy Award.

2007 – Charlotte Wood, Head of Technical Services, was one of three Massachusetts Librarians to win an all expenses paid trip to the American Library Association (ALA) annual conference paid for by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

2007 – $20,000 LSTA federal grant award from Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners for “Serving ‘Tweens and Teens.

2007 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award, First Place in the web site category.

2006 – VOYA (Voices of Youth Advocates) “Most Valuable Program Award” for “Vote! It Does a Nation Good” a collaborative teen program presented in 2004.

2005 – $3.4 million construction grant awarded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. (Grant was forfeited in November, 2005 after voters rejected authorization for funding construction cost balance of $8.3 million).

2005 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award, Honorable Mention for “Vote! It Does a Nation Good” a collaborative teen program presented in 2004.

2003 – $7,500 LSTA federal grant award from Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners for “Wilmington Reads, One Book, One Community.”

2001 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award, Honorable Mention Bookmark Category for the 2000 Summer Reading Program Open Books, Open Frontiers bookmark.

2001 – Massachusetts Friends of the Libraries (MFOL), Second Place, “Great Ideas Contest” for circulating book bags for children’s materials.

1999 – Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) Public Relations Award, Honorable     Mention for the 1998 Summer Reading Program Unlock the Mystery-Read!

1999 – Massachusetts Friends of the Libraries (MFOL), Honorable Mention, “Great Ideas Award” for Homebound Delivery Program.
