The Youth Services department is eager to partner with teachers to help meet the reading and information needs of Wilmington students!

Assignment Alerts

Teachers are encouraged to submit an Assignment Alert in advance of assigning homework and projects for which students will use library resources.

We’ll pull together books and other materials from our library, and other libraries in the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium for students to either use within the library, if there is a limited supply, or to take home. This will help us ensure that each subject has sufficient information for students to research through our catalog and databases.

One to two weeks notice is requested. Even if it’s the same project every year, please submit an alert every time. There may be new additions or changes that we should be aware of.

Classroom Visits

Children and Teen librarians are available in-person and virtually to demonstrate how students can access our kid-friendly online databases and resources, provide instruction on research skills, offer book recommendations or talk about our programs and how to get a library card. Please call (978) 694-2098 or email kids@wilmlibrary.org to schedule a visit.

Teacher Cards

The library offers special library cards to teachers, day care providers, and homeschoolers working with Wilmington residents in a planned educational environment. To get a card or renew an expired card, come into the library or email us at kids@wilmlibrary.org.

With a teacher card you can:

  • Keep library books and materials out for up to six weeks.
  • Keep your personal borrowing separate from your classroom borrowing.
  • Request items on interlibrary loan.
  • Get access to our digital libraries and all library databases for kids, teens, and adults.
