Procedures for using the DML

Before using the DML, a new user must complete a brief orientation session with a librarian.  After completing the orientation session, the user’s name will be kept on file and they will be free to use and reserve time on the DML.

DML users must be of high school age or older. A photo ID is required. The photo ID will be kept at the Main Desk until the session is finished.

Users may reserve the DML in advance by submitting a DML Reservation Form on the website www.wilmlibrary.org or by calling the library at (978) 658-2967, or in-person at the Main Desk. Patrons can reserve blocks of up to three hours at a time, with a maximum of one reservation per week. If the DML is not reserved, patrons can use the workstation on a first-come, first-served basis.

Time Limits

  • Use is limited to a maximum of three hours per day.
  • Users may request additional time at the Main Desk. Additional time beyond three hours will be granted at the discretion of the librarian on duty.
  • The DML closes 10 minutes before the library closes.

  • Users are expected to have a working knowledge of the equipment and software.  Staff cannot help patrons for extended periods or perform work for them.
  • All general behavioral guidelines for the library apply.
  • A maximum of two people are allowed to use the DML at any one time.
  • The individual whose ID is on file while using the DML will be considered the main user and is responsible for any damage or misuse of the equipment, even if a group is working on a project together.
  • No food or drink allowed near the DML.
  • Priority will be given to users who are working on digital media projects (videos, music, websites, photo editing, scanning). Users who are using the DML for web browsing will be asked to use the other adult internet stations in the library.
  • Patrons working with audio or video will be asked to use headphones in order to minimize noise.
  • Patrons should not install any programs on the DML without permission from the librarian on duty.
  • Printing is available via the library’s CASSIE print management system. Black and white prints are $.15 per page and color prints are $.30 per page.
  • Personal information, saved passwords, web history, and files created while using the DML are not automatically deleted at the end of each session, so patrons should make sure to delete any personal information before ending their session.
  • Users must save their work on an external memory source.  External hard drives are available for checkout.  USB flash drives are sold at the Check Out Desk.
