For all ages (readers and pre-readers)

Most programs require pre-registration—all events are free.

Sidewalk Chalk
Friday, June 18, 10 am
All ages are invited to drop-in at the library parking lot behind the “Book Store Next Door” to create chalk drawings on the pavement. Free refreshments will be available, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. In the event of rain, we will draw in the large meeting room upstairs.

Big Wheels Coloring Sheets Drop-in Craft
Monday, June 21 – Friday, June 25
Color your favorite big wheels vehicles.  All ages.

Big Wheels
Friday, June 25, 10 am – 12 pm
Fire engines, construction vehicles, police cars, oh my!  Are you fascinated by these working vehicles and others with big wheels?  If so, visit them at the Wildwood Street parking lot behind the library.  All ages are invited to meet the town’s operators of these vehicles, ask questions, climb inside and imagine what it must be like to drive them!  Due to the space needed to park these big machines, the public is requested to park at the High School parking lot on Middlesex Ave.  Thanks to the Town of Wilmington’s Departments of Public Works, Fire and Police for making this program possible.

Paper Plate Tambourines Drop-in Craft
Monday, June 28 – Friday, July 2
Make some recycled music using your own paper plate tambourine!  All ages are welcome to participate.  Rock on!

Storybook Theatre

Registration begins Thursday, June 17
The Children’s Theatre Workshop of Wilmington will be sponsoring this mini drama event for children ages 3 through 5.  Children will listen to a story and act it out.

Star Mag Meeting
Tuesday, June 29, 3:30 pm
Kids ages 8 & older are invited to drop-in with their finished original artwork, puzzles, poems, comics, jokes, etc., as contributions to the summer issue of this magazine written by, for and about kids, and published by the library. Special guest, newly published co-author of Ruthie B. Goose - Birth of the Legend, Ruthie Baker, will be on hand to talk about her first book.  Refreshments will be served and a door prize, provided by the Friends of the Library, will be awarded.

Vic and Sticks

Registration begins Thursday, June 17
Vic and Sticks Recycled Rhythm Band will provide musical comedy for the whole family.  Sing about the three “R’s”—reduce, reuse, recycle in this fast-paced show and learn how recycling helps the world around us.  Become part of the Recycled Rhythm Band!  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Book Discussion for Ages 7 & Older: Judy Moody Saves the World by Megan

Judy Moody has a mood for every occasion, and this time she’s in the mood to whip the planet into shape.  Class 3T is studying the environment, and Judy is startled to learn about the destruction of the rain forest, the endangered species (not) in her own backyard, and her own family’s crummy recycling habits.  Never one to take things lying down, Judy Moody takes charge and makes changes in this hilarious book.  Copies of the book may be reserved by visiting or calling the Children’s Room.  Drop-in for the discussion with your own boxed lunch—a fun dessert and door prize will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

“Cinderella” Live Theater Performance

The Summer Travel Troupe of The Children’s Theatre Workshop of Wilmington will present an adaptation of the classic fairy tale.  All ages.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Tuesday, July 6, 2:30 pm & 6:30 pm
Drop-in with something comfortable to sit on, if desired.  Free popcorn and lemonade will be served.  Rated: PG.

Go Green Door Hanger Drop-in Craft
Tuesday, July 6 – Friday, July 9
What would you do for the earth?  Create your own “Go Green” door hanger to announce your ideas for a better world.  All ages are invited to drop-in and show your support for a greener world.

Freezerless Ice Cream

Make ice cream without a freezer.  Of course, it will have to be eaten soon afterward.  No problem.  Kids ages 9 & older are invited to register for this yummy event.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. 

Ronald McDonald’s “Dive into Discovery Show!”

Registration begins Thursday, July 1
Come see Ronald McDonald in his summer reading show for all ages.  Plunge into the depths of the library to find the treasures that it holds.  Be a part of the adventure, magic and reading fun!  There will be a short “meet & greet” photo opportunity with Ronald after the thirty minute show and a small book for the children.  Sponsored by McDonald’s of Wilmington.

Puzzle Pieces Picture Frames Drop-in Craft

Want to know what to do with old puzzles?  Create your own one of a kind picture frame for a favorite photo.  All ages. 

Kiss a Frog! Story/Craft Program

Registration begins Thursday, July 1
Preschoolers aged 3 through 5 are invited to attend this event featuring frogs.  We won’t be kissing any, but we will hear stories about them and make a frog to take home.

Mike Bent’s Abrakidabra! presents EcoMagic!
Tuesday, July 13, 7 pm
Registration begins Thursday, July 1
Go Green with amazing magic, storytelling, music, puppets and hilarious comedy about recycling, reading, conservation and the environment.  Mike Bent was named “Best of Boston” by Boston Magazine and won the 2009 Nickelodeon Parents’ Picks Award for “Boston’s Best Children’s Entertainer”.  He has performed at the White House three times!  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Play Chess

Calling all chess fans—all ages and skill levels.  Come alone, or bring a friend for an hour of fun playing chess.  We’ll have tables set up for players and a limited number of chess sets will be provided.  Please bring chess sets, if convenient.  Children under age 10 need to be accompanied by an adult.  Drop-in

Scrapbooking with Karen Mirabito

Registration begins Thursday, July 8
Wilmington’s Karen Mirabito of Stampin’ Up! will present a scrapbooking workshop for kids ages 9 & older.  Each child will create a 12” X 12” scrapbook page with a “Go Green” or recycling theme.  All materials will be provided free of charge.  Space is limited.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Rick Goldin Concert

Rick Goldin’s “Going Green” summer reading concert will entertain young children with a lively music and puppet program with lots of movement, humor and singing along.  Songs about nature and animals, recycling and saving energy, and books will be highlighted.  Rick has received a Parents’ Choice Recommended Award for his recording, “I Like to Read”.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  

Children’s Tie-Dye Workshop

Animal World Experience: Going Green in Your Backyard

Imagine if there was a way for your backyard to benefit wildlife while still being beautiful and functional to you.  There is!  In this intriguing and interactive program hear about why animals have such a hard time surviving in the average backyard.  Kids will meet live animals that they may hope to encounter outside their homes as some of the many ways to help them are explored.  Using 100% recycled materials, a volunteer from the audience will have the opportunity to help construct a simple birdhouse that they can bring home with them.  There will be many other projects and ideas discussed that children can implement in their own yard.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Something Fishy! Story/Craft Program

Animal Bookmarks Drop-in Craft

Are you doing a lot of reading this summer?  Well, make a handy animal bookmark.  Don’t turn those book corners down!  All ages.

Newspaper Hats Drop-in Craft
Monday, August 2 – Friday, August 6
Newspapers are not just for reading—you can clean windows, wrap garbage and eat fish and chips with them.  But most important you can make a great hat.  Drop-in, make a new hat and wear it home!  All ages.

Howl at the Moon with a Wild Thing Tune

Tom Sieling, widely acclaimed singer and songwriter, will perform a family concert of humorous and very participatory songs about our natural world.  Tom accompanies himself on guitar, banjo, harmonica and drum machine and has delighted tens of thousands of concert-goers over the past twenty years.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.   

Draw a Puzzle Drop-in Craft

All ages are invited to draw a puzzle with their unique design.  You may want to draw a picture of a fun summer experience.

The Spoon Man

Get “SPOONED” by musical comedian and one-man orchestra, Jim Cruise, “The Spoon Man”.  A real stirring performance of his hilarious impressions for the entire family include those of heavy metal and rap spoon players and others in a variety of musical styles.  “The Spoon Man” has been playing the spoons professionally for 20 years and has performed for Mikhail Gorbachev, Gerald Ford and Mr. Rogers.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.  

Hand Puppets Drop-in Craft

Sparky’s Puppets are coming this week.  Be prepared for the show with you own puppet.  All ages.

The Wind Blew Story/Craft

The wind can blow your hat off.  It can move a windmill.  It can fly a kite.  What else can it do?  Preschoolers aged 3 through 5 may find out more about the wind when they attend this event.

Sparky’s Puppets

Join the fun as Sparky’s Puppets performs “Stories in Trees”, a lively medley of stories celebrating the forest and field.  Meet an acorn-loving squirrel and a magic talking tree, and see the skit created especially for Wilmington by Sparky about the discovery of the first Baldwin apple tree.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Children’s All-You-Can-Read Buffet
Thursday, August 19, 11:30 am - 4:30 pm
Registration begins Thursday, August 5
Kids ages 9 & older are invited to register for this marathon read-in.  Bring something comfortable to lounge upon and read your materials or ours in air-conditioned comfort. We will provide the snacks and beverages throughout the day, a pizza party at the conclusion, and prizes.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
