Are you a teen who needs volunteer hours? Submit an online application here to become a Book Buddy. This six-week commitment in October and November enables teens to be paired with a child for three fun activities at every session: reading, snacking, and completing a craft.

We've had a few collections of online materials for a while now. You've probably heard of them: Freegal, Hoopla, OverDrive, and Zinio. You may have even used one or more of them. However, the way of using each of them changes based on the device you're using. One of the most popular devices out there is Apple's iPad (again, you may have heard of it...). Well the iPad does indeed allow you to use each of the aforementioned stores of material. But you need an app.

Since navigating through the iPad apps can be a bit different than navigating through a ordinary old browser, we're thrown some documentation together to walk you through the process. If we missed a step and that's got you confused, please let us know!

New to the Teen Zone: DVDs of movies based on teen books. You've read the book, now see the movie. From Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist to I Am Number Four, the adventure doesn't need to end when you reach the last page - now you can watch the book come to life.

Find these DVDs and more shelved above the video games in the Teen Zone. More titles will be added soon, including the much anticipated DVD of The Fault in Our Stars!

This was a great summer in the Children’s Department.  We had a record number of kids sign up for the Fizz Boom Read Summer Reading Program.  837 kids read a combined total of 4,735 hours!    The Children’s  Department was a busy place all summer long.   Lots of kids and families came to the library to attend programs, do crafts, get stamps, earn stickers, play with the trains and new toys in the preschool area and just hang out.  Thank you to the Friends of the Library for supporting the summer reading program.  Thank you also to the Topsfield Fair, Merrimack Valley Pavillion and UNO for providing reading incentive prizes.

Last week we held a Stop-Motion Animation Workshop for those entering grades 5-8. Two groups of tweens had lots of fun working together to create their own stop-motion short films using clay, a tripod, a camera, Windows Movie Maker, and their wonderful imaginations. A special thank you goes out to Maria for her expertise.

    Here are the two films:
