Wilmington Through Art Entries on Display

Stop by to see eighteen beautiful paintings depicting images of Wilmington that have been entered in the Wilmington Through Art Contest. The paintings will be on display through Saturday, September 22 when Wilmington Arts Council judges will select first, second and third place winners.

This year's Community Fair features the Town of Wilmington Information Table with representatives from various Town Departments on hand to answer questions. The Town Clerk's staff will be availabe to register voters. Town Manager Michael Caira and Assistant Manager Jeff Hull will be there from 10:30 am to 12 noon giving residents the opportunity to wish Mr. Caira well in his retirement and meet Mr. Hull, Wilmington’s newly appointed Town Manager.

In celebration of Wilmington’s 282nd anniversary of incorporation on September 25, 1730,  the library is sponsoring “Wilmington Through Art Contest.”  Entries must be hand produced art work and must represent Wilmington. Examples are Town Common, Silver Lake, town buildings, historical sites, etc.  Click here for application.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2012 Poetry Contest.  This year's theme was animals,inspiring over 200 poems. Winners and honorable meniton recipients are invited to Poetry Night on Tuesday, April 25 to read their poems and receive prizes and certificates. Thank you to our judges: Peggy Kane, President, Friends of the Library, Kate Burnham, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, and Barbara Raab, Children's Librarian.

Tickets are now on sale for the library's next After Hours Concert on Friday, March 30, 7 pm.  If you enjoy Motown to Cole Porter, you’ll love “Four Guys in Tuxes”.  These versatile vocalists and musicians will wow you with a wide range of toe tapping tunes taking requests from the audience to boot.  Take advantage of an opportunity for an inexpenisve evening “out on the town” close to home.  The After Hours Concert is held on the first floor with reserved seating, Starbucks coffee, dessert, and a complimentary glass of wine included. Tickets are $10 Must be 21+.

Just a reminder that the library will be closed Saturday December 24 through Monday December 26.  Stop by the library to stock up with books, dvds, music, etc. before the long holiday weekend.  The library staff wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season!

Food for Fines

The library is accepting non-perishable foods in lieu of money for overdue fines during the month of December. In the spirt of Food for Fines, the amount of the donation should be comparable to the amount of the fine owed. There is no limit to the amount of fines that can be waived, but food canot be used to pay for lost or damaged books. Donated food items should be in good condition and not have expired dates. Collected food will be donated to the Wilmington Food Pantry. Suggested items are listed on the Community Fund website.

Win a Boston Bruins Gift Basket

Bruins fans who would like a chance to win a gift basket filled with Bruins items including two tickets for a Bruins game on January 31 with Ottawa Senators can purchase tickets for a drawing at the library.  Other items in the basket include sticks and pucks autographed by your favorite players, a  Bruins back pack, winter cap, NHL scarf, throw blanket and ice scraper.  Tickets can be purchased for $2 each and 3 for $5 at the library’s main desk.
