Don't let the bulk of this book intimidate you; 660 Curries is an excellent introduction to Indian cooking! Raghavan Iyer's book gives plenty of advice on using and finding foreign ingredients and provides a simple approach to meal prep.  If you're looking for great, one-dish meals, this is a book to try.  Try the Yogurt-Tart Chickpeas on page 335 or the One-Pot Potatoes with Red Lentils on page 552.

The library purchases a movie license annually that provides permission to show feature length films to an audience. Thanks to the Friends of the Library funding for the new audio video system, a movie theater like atmosphere adds to your viewing enjoyment. On October 28, at 10 am, preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to enjoy Winnie the Pooh, the latest movie about the lovable bear and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. The adult audience can watch Water for Elephants on Tuesday November 1, with show time starting at 6:45 pm. This movie is based on the bestselling book by Sara Gruen. The entire family can come on Friday November 4, at 7 pm for a showing of Cars 2. Please note that the library closes at 5 pm  for normal business on Fridays. Doors open for the movie at 6:45pm and will be closed by 7:05 pm. So zoom over to the library on time to watch Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater when they head overseas to compete in the World Grand Prix race. Please register for these movie events.

Welcome to our new web site! I hope you like the new look and that you will find it user friendly. The website is built on Drupal, an open source content management system. This software provides features, such as, RSS feeds that patrons can subscribe to for news and event updates. Patrons can also comment on to blog posts and events. I am looking forward to keeping in touch with you via this Director's blog and encourage you to give me your feedback on the library via this post.  I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Curtis Wyant, our Technology Librarian, for all his work on the development of this web site.

Teen Read Week has come and gone for another year, but that doesn't mean there's no reason to pick up a great book. If you need some suggestions, or if Brandy came to your class and you forgot the titles she talked about, take a look at the high school list or the middle school list. And if you want more suggestions, take a look at the rest of our suggested teen reading lists.

The latest cookbook from the popular vegetarian restaurant in Ithaca, NY, Moosewood Restaurant Cooking for Health, is by far my favorite.  Whether you’re a committed vegetarian or just looking for ways to eat more vegetables and whole grains, this book has something for everyone.  Try out the Greek Lentil Burgers on page 155 – they cook beautifully, have a fantastic flavor, and aren’t mushy like so many other veggie/lentil burgers.  Other must-trys include the Italian stew on page 247, the spicy chipotle chili on page 222, and the fresh mushroom soup on page 120.

After building substantial buzz over the past year, LA fuzzy-pop group Best Coast released their debut album “Crazy for You”. Guitarist and singer Bethany Cosentino combines 1950s pop melodies and nostalgic boy/girl lyrics with driving beats and reverberated guitars. Comparisons to Vivian Girls and Sleater Kinney are obvious, but fans of Liz Phair and The Breeders will find Best Coast’s familiar sound sweet, melodic, lovelorn, and fun. This is a “California” record; highly recommended to beat the winter blues.

The Other Guys with Will Farrell and Mark Wahlberg as a couple of NYPD detectives is full of laughs.  They hate their jobs and they hate each other.  Will Farrell is at his best and Mark Wahlberg is excellent as his over-the-edge partner.  Even Michael Keaton shines as the chief.  I gave it a definite thumbs up!
